Title: Days of Becoming, Epilogue, Chapter 44: “Oh! You Pretty Things!"
Author: Talktooloose
’Verse: X-Men movieverse
Betas: [livejournal.com profile] mofic and [livejournal.com profile] lux_apollo. One last time, thanks!
Disclaimers: Marvel and 20th Century own the X-Men, but often get it wrong. I own my original characters, for all the profit that brings. I also get it wrong, but I don't charge people for it.

Series Summary: This novel focuses mainly on the paths Iceman and Pyro take on their way to adulthood and how they discover and deal with their love for each other. It is a novel about what Joni Mitchell calls ”the dream's malfunction” and how we can learn to make our own dreams when our heroes fail us. Other X characters (including ones from comicverse and elsewhere) and OC's play prominent roles and the action begins before X1, continues through the events of X2 and X3 and concludes in the aftermath of that movie. This novel does not take X-Men Origins: Wolverine as canon.

It's done at last. Pinch me. Please enjoy the final installment and, if you've been waiting for it leave WIP status, you can now begin this THING which took me four years to write. I wouldn't have made it without my betas, the wonderful encouragement of the readers, and the enthusiasm of the fandom.

If you're interested in receiving email about my upcoming (non fanfic) novel, please fill out the form at the end of the chapter.

I will be posting Endnotes to the book as well as a laid out pdf of the whole (with minor edits) in about two weeks. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for reading. It's been a life-changing experience.

Previously in Days of Becoming: The last few days have witnessed incredible tumult and tragedy. Charles Xavier has been killed by Jean Grey in her Phoenix manifestation before she herself died on Alcatraz at the hands of Wolverine. Rogue has disappeared from the school, sneaking out in the early hours of the morning to get "cured." Thousands of American mutants have taken the cure including — unwittingly — Magneto himself during the battle on Alcatraz. In the final moments of that battle, when the Phoenix force was destroying all in its path, Bobby broke away from his X-Men comrades to save John, carrying his unconscious body off the battle field and across San Francisco Bay.

Previously, in Days of Becoming: Mike Haddad has long left the school, but his efforts on behalf of mutants go on. John Allerdyce has little time to think about his novel, which is being read online all over the world. With Mystique in custody, he is Magneto's right-hand man, and the great man has great plans. Jubilee, out of action as a New X-men due to a broken leg, has been following the arrest of an Asian gang leader in Los Angeles, one she seems to remember from her childhood in the house of her dead parents. Scott Summers has jumped on his bike and gone to find out why his dead lover, Jean Grey, is still calling him.

Sorry this chapter is so bloodly late. It's the longest ever, I think, terribly complicated and my life is overly full of stressful, time-consuming stuff. Forgive me, patient readers.

Previously, in Days of Becoming: John has joined Magneto’s Brotherhood. After catching him performing oral sex on a “brother,” Mystique and Magneto have sent John undercover. He is to get into the bed of a Taylor Kincaid, a closeted Washington consultant working for Congressman Kemper of Idaho, and extract information on government anti-mutant initiatives. Back at the School for Gifted Youngsters, Bobby finds himself full of doubts. Although he and Rogue are supposedly the number one couple of the school, he finds himself thinking constantly about John and their time together. Doug Ramsey and Jones have formed a somewhat shady underground business called Janus Dog Node, helping various organizations and individuals hide money and information on a private, secure Internet simulacrum.

Previously in Days of Becoming: On the day of an attempted presidential assassination by a mutant infiltrator, the School for Gifted Youngsters has been attacked. Some students have been captured, as have Professor Xavier and Cyclops. John, Bobby and Rogue have run away with Wolverine, heading for Bobby's hometown of Boston. At the mansion, Kitty and Peter have confronted the soldiers again while trying to gather supplies for the remaining students who are hiding in the woods. Previously in Days of Becoming: Mike and Andi's mutant youth tour comes together, with a launch party planned at the mansion. Acclaimed mutant trip-hop performer, The Dazzler has agreed to join the tour. Meanwhile, John's life has started to lose its stable foundations. Everything he thought he had is slipping away. Bobby and Rogue are growing closer, and Xavier has told him he can't submit his poems to a journal as this could bring the authorities down on him and the whole school. Bobby, for his part, is drawn to the normalcy of having a girlfriend and terrified to be associated in any way with John who seems not to care if he's perceived as queer. John also found a writing mentor in Charles Xavier who once aspired to be a poet himself, before mutant concerns took over his life. While Bobby worked with the visiting mutant engineer, Forge, John visited the med-lab where Jean Grey tested him for any STIs he might have acquired in his brief time as hustler. Betas: [livejournal.com profile] kuriadalmatia, [livejournal.com profile] mofic and [livejournal.com profile] lux_apollo. Thank you for your precision and commitment.
Disclaimers: Marvel and 20th Century own this stuff but they need us to make sense of it.

The betas, as usual, were immensely helpful and I've ignored a different strongly held point of criticism from each of them this time. Sorry guys, it's my funeral. Lux, especially may be disappointed that I handled his "that's too crude" criticism by making it cruder. *sigh*

Betas: [livejournal.com profile] kuriadalmatia and [livejournal.com profile] lux_apollo. Thank you for making me a better writer.

Notes: Rayen is liberally adapted from a character in Grant Morrison's 616 X-Men run.

This chapter was supposed to be easy—just a transitional bit between more dramatic sequences—but it turned into a beast (and no, Hank is not in it).

Unreserved and slobbery thanks to Lux and Kuria for insightful betas and brilliant suggestions. Bobby's Halloween costume is thanks to Lux and Kuria suggested one of Sam's lines as well Charles' unique memento. In addition, they helped me stay on track and true to my tale. Words fail.

Title: Days of Becoming, Chapter 8 - "Measured Response"
Author: Talktooloose
'Verse: X-Men movieverse
Warnings: Swearing, I think. It means nothing to me, so I don't really take note. Bubbling sexuality. Implied use of hand lotion as a sexual aid. Bad puns.
Series Summary: This novel focusses mainly on the paths Iceman and Pyro take on their way to adulthood and how they discover and deal with their love for each other. Chapter Summary: The characters react to the shooting in Pasadena. At the mansion, they plan action; in Boston, a disillusioned Mike meets an interesting girl; at the mutant youth meeting in New York, Bobby makes a bold (or is it foolish) move. Bobby and Kitty wonder what's up with all the spandex.
