Title: Days of Becoming, Chapter 19 - “Friends Like These, Part 1”
Author: Talktooloose
'Verse: X-Men movieverse
Warnings: Explicit sex, swearing, over-earnest hardcore, bondage, abuse of Classical literature.
Betas:
mofic and
lux_apollo. Thank you for making me a little less fucked up than I'd otherwise be.
Disclaimers: Marvel and 20th Century own this stuff but they fuck up everything. Like what's with this Young X-Men crap? And why isn't Josh Holloway going to play Gambit in the Wolvie movie?
Series Summary: This novel focusses mainly on the paths Iceman and Pyro take on their way to adulthood and how they discover and deal with their love for each other. It is a novel about what Joni Mitchell calls "the dream's malfunction" and how we can learn to make our own dreams when our heroes fail us. Other X characters (including ones from comicverse and elsewhere) and OC's play prominent roles and the action begins before X1, continues through the events of X2 and X3 and concludes in the aftermath of that movie.
Previously in Days of Becoming: On Halloween night, John Allerdyce arrived at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters where he began a passionate but clandestine relationship with Bobby Drake. John also found a writing mentor in Charles Xavier who once aspired to be a poet himself, before mutant concerns took over his life. While Bobby worked with the visiting mutant engineer, Forge, John visited the med-lab where Jean Grey tested him for any STIs he might have acquired in his brief time as hustler. After their appointment, he spent time with the comatose Jones whose condition had the staff baffled.

Date: 2008-04-05 11:11 pm (UTC)Fuck Marvel and their explosively bad decisions; this fic holds a stronger canon than any of the flimsy X-rags being churned out these days. Looking forward to the next installment.

Date: 2008-04-06 10:19 am (UTC)I really liked the flow of this one, the powerful glimpses we get of even "minor" characters - Jean Grey comes to mind.
It's also nice to see that Bobby isn't quite as, I don't know, self-assured? mature? strong? as he pretends he is. The whirlwind of a new relationship, combined with the whole mutant/potential X-Men situation must be really difficult to process. He really needs somebody to hug him and tell him that things are going to be alright. Even if they aren't.

Date: 2008-04-07 03:38 pm (UTC)For me, Bobby is all about the disparity of what he presents to the world and what's going on inside. In that way, he is the opposite of John.
Thanks for reading!

Date: 2008-04-22 03:36 pm (UTC)LOVED IT!
Date: 2008-04-21 01:06 pm (UTC)Mike is back in a big way. You did some wonderful stuff with him this chapter. Is that stuff he said about Lincoln and slavery_doing it to ruin the South's economy true? I've never heard the theory--and being the puppet of society that I am never bothered to look for other views.
Liked how you mixed in the race issue with the mutant issue_The stuff Mike's mom said to him about not bringing attention to himself because of them being Arabic and 9-11. They so want him to play it safe and he so wants to play it real. I'm sorry that he didn't have any interaction with Bobby_he was Bobby's lifeline not too long ago. And now Bobby's banging and in love with a street kid/hustler (or he thinks-sounds like Scott wants to put some doubts in his head and remind him of his place before John arrived).
Liked Xeno trashing the lame rappers at the demonstration_that was my opinion as well.
This story is so BIG. Covers lots of topics, ideas, differences of outlook/choices/lives. And you are doing a wonderful job relating it all to us. I adored this chapter_your story just keeps on getting better and more entertaining. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
P.S. The steam coming from Bobby's mouth after giving John oral_ that was really hot
Re: LOVED IT!
Date: 2008-04-22 02:20 pm (UTC)Yeah, the Lincoln stuff... I didn't know either, but I knew I wanted Mike to write something negative so I asked a history major who was staying at my place and he told me how the anti-slave laws were a political tool. Now, that doesn't totally discount their importance; politicians make most laws at times when they are politically convenient. But, Mike's in a very all-or-nothing period of his life and has no patience for hypocrisy.
God, the story IS big. I thought I could write it in a year, but it will be closer to three from start to finish. This is frustrating as I have other novels I want to get to, but I look at DOB as my fiction apprenticeship. I love writing all these characters so much, but I now understand that you have to limit a novel more if you don't want it to be 800 pages.
Yeah, the steam! Reminds me of that old joke: "Do you smoke after sex?"
Thanks for your kind and appreciative words.
