Chinglish Saturday Night
We went out to an authentic Shanghai cuisine restaurant up in Asiancourt (the area is historically "Agincourt," but it's mostly Chinese now). The whole plaza was a miracle of Chinglish.

First of all, the restaurant was called "SKYLAND DE SHANGHAI". We learned from TouTou that "Skyland" actually means the sum total of sky and land, i.e., the world. "De," interestingly enough means exactly the same in Chinese and French and therefore is both pretentiously Euro and authentically Chinese.

The plaza also contained three side-by-side hair salons. This is a very Chinese phenomenon and can be seen on the streets of Chinese cities where a whole line of noodle sellers will be loudly hawking their wares side by side. Supposedly, if the first person is there, it must be an auspicious location, so you go there, too. Etc. The three salons, in order, were "PRO-YOU HAIR SALON," "YUPPIE HAIR," and "IN-HAIR DESIGN."
