Series Summary: This novel focusses mainly on the paths Iceman and Pyro take on their way to adulthood and how they discover and deal with their love for each other. It is a novel about what Joni Mitchell calls "the dream's malfunction" and how we can learn to make our own dreams when our heroes fail us. Other X characters and OC's play prominent roles and the action begins before X1, continues through the events of X2 and X3 and concludes in the aftermath of that movie.
Chapter Summary: Bobby continues to follow Lance through the dark woods of sexuality; John is inspired and terrified; Lance and John lose control.

Thanks for the kind words. Chapter 13 is a bit of a bitch because it's all transitional, but I'm slogging through it. Actually, it's because I'm so excited to write 14 that 13 seems like a chore but I'm sure I'll love it eventually.

Thanks, man. I had a last minute crisis when I realized that the content of John's book (as you read it in the beta version) was actually one I'd want to write so I had to rewrite it. Now I'm kind of into the replacement, too.

I'm fine. Ish. Had a bit of a rush of depression this morning, so I stayed home from work and dealt with it by sleeping. Go me. I just need to get life back to normal. Ish. As we both know, I have a plethora of things that need taking care of, so it shouldn't be *that* hard to accomplish until my brother is back from BC...

I want to write something definitive about this chapter/story; but i can't find a way to express it all. There was so much going on. So many stories within the story. The dreams and their symbolism. The acts of courage and defeat. Your writing is so intense and so filled with imagery; it feels like i'm reading multiple stories at the same time-all connected and intertwined. all of them fascinating, compelling and leaving me with wanting more. I know why updates aren't so frequent- because when you do post a new chapter; it's like a story onto itself. So intense- that it must take an almost exhaustive effort- and worth the wait. It is unlike any other story i have read. So much has happened already within this story and yet john and bobby aren't even roommates yet. Most stories start with john as bobby's new roommate and mention that john's hard life on the streets is why he is the way he is. But you are showing us john's life before the x-men. So that we aren't just told about his background- we see it all unfold. And most stories have john as bobby's first same sex experience. I must admit that i had hoped that john would be bobby's first-because the first just seems so important. I suppose, when he does hook up with john, he will be able to appreciate it more. He will know what it is like to be with someone who cares for him more than physically. And fate is a bitch to john again. he reaches out for bobby again with the instant messaging; to feel safe, to be saved; and bobby misses it because of the goings on with lance. Mike and bobby both mention that they've changed. I hope the changes aren't the kind that force them to grow apart- because mike is a great character/friend. I look forward to the next chapter and am very glad that you chose to share this story with us.

Yeah, I can't write as fast as I would like. Sometimes I write a bit, find myself kind of lost or missing and a piece and I have to leave it for a while. I know where I want to get to and when it's going well, but the path is sometimes mysterious.

I didn't plan on the buildup to Bobby and John getting together being so long but stories dicate to the writer sometimes. I needed them to have been through certain experiences first that will help explain their behaviours in the movies and the difficult path of their love. For John, there are a lot of questions about trust and love and also his development as an artist. For Bobby, there is a whole arc of coming out and worrying that he will lose love if he is seen to be gay. Or mutant, for that matter. His life consists of closets within closets.

Mike's arc is the most surprising to me. He is turning into a totally different guy than I expected. More to follow.

I'm going to write a lot in the next few days... hopefully get to the end of 13 and then revision begins.

Isn't China Moutain Zhang awesome? I've read it like four times. I love it when SF is actually about human development. The book is the arc of a young man discovering himself -- one of my favourite topics.

As to the expectations of greatness... I can't see myself slacking off or my standards dropping. I'm sure I'll succeed and fail as I go along; this is my first novel, after all. But! Rest assured, I know exactly where the story is going, even if the path gets windier all the time.

Yeah, my first novel. I've written short fiction, plays, songs, comics and poems before, but never a novel. I think I wasn't ready yet but now I have a whole bunch lined up in my head. Maybe I'll spend the rest of my life doing that. Or maybe I'll switch to furniture making in a couple of years.

I'm kind of unpredicatable which sort of freaks me out.

I'm totally curious about your Bobby and Kittyness stories... lol. Just slap me.

Oh I don't mind sharing my stories. Ok Bobbyness:

I've had some naughty things happen to me when I was little so pretty much my view on relationships is a skewed one, but when I was 13 in High School all my friends were obviously a lot older than me and I'm a tall girl so I didn't look 13 I looked same age as them, this dude named Damian was the star of the track team and really hot (smoking hot) anyway I told him I had a crush on him and me being young a foolish I believed him when he said he liked me, but he only wanted to bang me obv, and his girlfriend wasn't giving him any so of course I was the back up, and whilst I didn't sleep with him, let's just say every on the track team knew my name. And Kittyness has to be my ex girlfriend but that's not an interestiong story.
