Birding Win

Wow. I just saw a goddamn PILIATED WOODPECKER for the first time in my life. I've been checking out its handsome profile in my birding books since I was a kid, but I'd never seen one in the flesh.

I thought it was a duck as it came squawking through the sky and landed on a tree not far from me. I watched him for about five minutes, including a majestic display of slow, powerful pecking.

There was no one around to tell, so I had to explain the importance of the event to a passing squirrel who took time out from his pre-winter fattening-up to listen to the rant of this crazy birder.

What a day. First, the pilliated woodpecker, then a very sweet email from my nephew and finally...

Six months after I proposed it and started designing it, the new homepage of our company finally went live.

It's been hugely nerve-wracking. It would have been bad enough if they had just asked me to do it, but it was my initiative that it happened at all. I explained to management exactly why I thought the current homepage wasn't working and what we could do to improve it. Somehow, this made me more uptight about the whole process, even after they signed off on the idea. I kept waiting for someone to say, "Why are you wasting money and time on this? There's nothing wrong with the current site!"

Then, I got pulled off the job all summer due to other deadlines, then I couldn't get the marketing director to do necessary rewrites to linked pages (they still have temporary text)...

BUT WE'RE LIVE.

I need a drink.
