Ehhh. I'm sick of everything, despite the sunshine! I want to crawl into bed with comic books and not emerge!

I'm not really feeling depressed. More like disgruntled.

Let's make a list of whatall is good. Maybe that will help:
  • Crossing Midnight
  • Great Expectations
  • Savoury treats in the fridge (ricotta salata, olives)
  • Libidinous thoughts
  • My puppy
  • My guy when he's not being bitch (but he's sick now, so he's allowed)

Too bad 'new-stuff day' isn't till tomorrow. Unless you are one of those subscriber people.

I see nothing for me in the Diamond shipping list this week. Last week was brilliant, though:
Crossing Midnight (Mike Carey brilliance), Ex Machina, American Virgin, Mouse Guard and, BEST OF ALL, Astonishing X-Men TPB #3.

Do you know that Joss Whedon is going to be the writer on Runaways starting with issue 25?

I do know that. Not sure if I want to bother, though. I'm getting kinda bored with Runaways brand of teen angst. Hell, I'm pretty bored with most teen angst period. Joss's run on Astonishing is hot-cold. Some issues are great, others really suck. It would be fine if the schedule was a little quicker, I think, but as it is the stories tend to struggle at times with the monthly-to-every-other-month schedule. It's good over all, and perhaps finally picking up the pieces, but this last arc was a bit of a train wreck on the whole (minus some great individual moments).

American Virgin continues to interest me, though. Still trying to figure out exactly where they are going to end up. I have my thoughts, but we'll see.

I just waited endlessly for the Astonishing trade and then read it in one swell foop. It read fine.

Teen angst still makes my world go 'round, otherwise I wounldn't be writing DOB. Adolescence remains a very interesting time to me. Of course, I haven't been there as recently as you.

American Virgin -- not a simple book, I think. Not as straightforward as he should "just get over himself" and fuck someone. The character is struggling with a lot of conflicting issues but also has a strong core. I'm interested to see where it goes.

I think my weariness of the teen-angst thing has to do with the fact that I'm so much older than some a lot of my peers here at university, and that makes the dating scene very unappealing... they are dealing with issues that I have no real want to help them take care of, because I'm not really in a situation where I *can* help them and make a real relationship out of it. The most I can give is friendship.

Maybe I've grown up too much. Maybe I'm just an elitist bastard. I don't know.

The biggest one pissing me off of late is the whole guys who only fall for straight guys and are only attracted to straight guys and are unwilling to give relationships with anyone else a chance.

There are about four of those in my immediate surroundings, and they are all angst-involved and depressed because 'they can't ever get dates' and 'all guys are straight' and 'they will never fall in love for real' but totally unwilling to get involved in the Q-munity where they could actually viably find something that works.

*sighs*

Anyway... I totally can see what you mean about Vol. 3 working as a whole, altogether. It just was something a bit choppy because of the scheduling.

Ahh, the tragic love of the unattainable object. So TRAGIC! Yeah, at least the angst in DOB is all action based, I think. Are you actually older than your peers or just emotionally older?

Random topic change!!!!!

Runaways is also consistently well drawn. Bad art trumps the best writing for me so if it ain't pretty, I won't buy it.

A little of both, but mostly just older. I mean, I'm turning 25, and the people around me are between 18 and 23 at the oldest, with a bunch of them in the 19-20 range where they have done the whole basic coming out thing and now are having a crisis of not wanting to hang out with queers because they don't know enough of them, or something, but getting angsty because they have no dating material.

Meanwhile... I've been asked out more times in the past year than ever before. But... that's not totally from being in the RC. Just partly.
