What We Did on Our Holidays!

Under the cut! Exclusive pictures from our home repair vacation the last week of August.

New roof for the patio:



You can see what a cute, narrow house we have. Overlooking the patio roof is our bedroom. See the doorway we had installed during the renovations? In about five years, we'll tear down the whole rickety patio structure and put up a new one that will include a walkout balcony from the bedroom.

New runner for the staircase. Putting this in place started with buying the runner almost a year ago and then saying, "It's easy! You just staple it onto the stairs!" Only to discover through simple research, the story of tackless strips, underpads and the elusive blunt chisel. So, many, many hours later:

After a bonanza of ripeness, we still have a lot of green ones on the vine that I don't think will ripen. That's okay; I have an awesome recipe for green tomato chutney.

I've always thought roofing would be an interesting experience. I agree with ashe about the tomatoes, though. But that's because I'm half asleep and hungry too.

Roofing is really hard work. However, it's very satisfying. You clean away garbage, fix systemic damage and then create high order.
