Title: Days of Becoming, Chapter 43: “Loose Threads and the Ties That Bind”
Author: Talktooloose
’Verse: X-Men movieverse
Betas: [livejournal.com profile] kuriadalmatia, [livejournal.com profile] mofic, and [livejournal.com profile] lux_apollo. I'm honoured to call these smart, funny and wise people my friends, and delighted to have had them as betas on this tome.
Disclaimers: Marvel and 20th Century own the X-Men, but often get it wrong. I own my original characters, for all the profit that brings. I also get it wrong, but I don't charge people for it.

Series Summary: This novel focuses mainly on the paths Iceman and Pyro take on their way to adulthood and how they discover and deal with their love for each other. It is a novel about what Joni Mitchell calls ”the dream's malfunction” and how we can learn to make our own dreams when our heroes fail us. Other X characters (including ones from comicverse and elsewhere) and OC's play prominent roles and the action begins before X1, continues through the events of X2 and X3 and concludes in the aftermath of that movie. This novel does not take X-Men Origins: Wolverine as canon.

Previously in Days of Becoming: After experiencing a nightmarish false reality created by a demented Xavier, Bobby and John have been rescued by the X-Men and Emma Frost. After their rescue, John begs Emma to erase Bobby's memory of the event. She does this and also awakens John's ability to create his own fire.

I haven't commented for literal ages, but I have loved this story since it began. It's so great (and so sad!) to finally see it coming to an end. Love the future you're setting up here, as grim as the political climate is shaping up to be.

What stuck out most to me in this part was the exchange between John and Xavier:
"I admire your maturity. It has been hard-won.”
“Well, don’t take any credit for it. I did it myself.”

Because while he never could have done it on his own, he really, really did.

Looking forward to the epilogue!

Thank you for your lovely words. Ending is sad for me, too, but also a huge relief.

John is kind of like those little kids who, when you try to show them something, scream "NO! I'LL DO IT MYSELF!" Of course, if someone didn't set them up with whatever it is, they might not discover it. But they will do it their way or be damned!

People like that (my oldest nephew comes to mind) don't make life easy for themselves, but maybe they learn the lessons deeply.

The epilogue is done; I'm just awaiting another beta and also some technical assistance. Next week.

I'm out of words. But you've made me feel amazing things.

I owe you a really long final comment though, which I'll hopefully feel up to writing by the time the epilogue's out.

Thanks for writing. I will be putting up the epilogue some time next week, I think.
