Some YouTube troll writes this comment on a Bill Maher interview: "why is there almost always at least one Jewish commentator, critic, etc."
Despite the fact that it is clear what his leading question means, I, like an idiot, answer: "Because Jewish culture has long been one based on intellectual discussion and debate. Our homes are often like that and so a disproportionate number of Jewish kids grow up to be pundits, critics, writers."
I get two responses. The first is from the original poster:
(Please! Some of the biggest anti-semites are Jews.)
The second response has me left me talking like Pauly Walnuts all morning:
(Hey, I know where you live! Ya better sleep wit one eye open! Shalom.)

I agree but also there is another anser (sic):
That is because the media is heavily influenced by Jewish people ...and please don't call me anti Semite for this statement my mom is Jewish.
Thank you :)

Not buying it. In countries where there are few Jews there is plenty of intellectually stimulating discussion. In the U.S., there is a clannishness in elite sectors of media, law and politics. Jews are proud of and believe it their ethical duty to collaborate -- there willingness to corner the market supported by the quasi paradoxical conviction of being both the victim and the chosen. America by now is in the hands not of a Jewish cabal but a Jewish mafia. Too much clubiness in my opinion.

Date: 2009-04-14 03:34 pm (UTC)I never think of Mahr or Jon Stewart as Jewish pundits, just as pundits.
Isn't everyone in the larger, liberally oriented Northwestern US cities an honorary Jew anyway? They all get the jokes and get to use Yiddish, at least.
And isn't this just a reworking of the usual liberal media phobia? No one ever goes around warning us about the Irish or the Germans cockblocking the conservative media!

Date: 2009-04-14 03:47 pm (UTC)What's funny is that his show has the most diverse pundits I've ever seen. Not only does he make sure to represent both Conservative and Liberal views, but he prominently includes black speakers, Muslims and Asians.
Anyway, I'll break dere fukkin' kneecaps.

You can always disagree with him if you do it intelligently. It's what's great about the series. The only really bad moment of OMG! I won't tolerate this at all! on the show was when Actor/Comedian Richard Belzer had a shit fit and walked off when Anne Coulter was interviewed via satellite.
You know...I can hardly blame him. Being that close to the source of true evil must have been very frightening. I'd have run too.

Date: 2009-04-14 05:00 pm (UTC)Unreasoning bias is never pretty, even dressed up in scientific jargon. I doubt exterminating anyone with a spiritual bent will even accomplish his goals. It's a human quality, for better or worse, that seems to crop up randomly in spite of periodic eugenics programs to wipe it out.
Maher goes a bit out of his way to give Christianity in particular the body slam, but he mainly seems to have issues with the Fundies and Roman Catholics....and what person with half a brain doesn't?
Even Roman Catholics know they have a pretty weird religion that borrowed lavishly from the Pagans. It's just not nice to steal someone's holidays then hunt them down for not doing it your way, is it? Roman Catholocism is the Borg of religion. They assimilated everyone and added them to their own...okay, not perfection.
And Fundamentalists of any ilk, well...they're just livin in their own little universe of unassailable WTF?
Easy targets. I notice he has a harder time with intelligent liberal people who are religious or spiritually and shows them a bit more respect.
Hell, he practically makes out with Deepak Chopra, who is not a practicing Hindu, but is an ecumenical spiritual figure in his own right.
