Thanks for putting into words what's been driving me insane here at work. I do really good work under the 'thrive' conditions you describe and I do poor work (for which they yell at me) when I'm pulled in too many directions at once. On top of that, they give me micro-managing supervisors (the last one mm'd down to the cellular level), something I'd never had at any job before this august institution of higher learning. I've come to the conclusion that this place breeds them. And, to top it off, they just forced me to start answering phones on the help desk *while* I'm still trying to do my fulltime programming job.
