I'm listening to a podcast of last week's Climate Change Special on CBC radio's science show, Quirks and Quarks.

The programme reminded me of a letter-to-whatever-editor that I have waiting in the wings the next time I have to read a story about "How Climate Change Will Be Good for Our Economy!" The last such story was a couple of weeks ago in the Globe and Mail.

I look forward to writing that the return of slavery might also have positive economic effects but that a gushing article to that effect might be in, um, dubious taste.

There was an article in The Atlantic Monthly a few months back that tackled the issue of winners and losers from global warming, and interestingly, it's mostly rich nations that win. Half the US loses agricultural capacity, half gains, and then desertification doubles the size of the Sahara, ruins South American agriculture as a whole, and increases malaria in tropical places.

While I respect the Atlantic, there are so many unknowns that it is impossible to say. I mean, we're all going to great here in the G8 unless a new superbug wipes us out, right?

The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Oh no, it's not falling. Come talk to us later. We're having a private, members only party in our cozy, climate controlled, nuke-proof fallout shelter. See what's left of you in fifteen years!

Ciao!

"...Love, Stephen."

It was so humiliating how Canada was singled out as a problem country when it comes to the environment at the recent Commonwealth Conference.
