I am going to New York City and environs from 01/25 to 01/29. I will be attending my brother-in-law's book launch and then hanging out. barkis and I are trying to meet after year's on each others' flists. Hopefully I can see mofic, too. Anyone else in the area?

I have tickets to see The Little Dog Laughed and Company and I'm generally all kinds of happy, especially since my parents have got me the air ticket on their points.

Thank you for all your non-suggestions about which Dickens book I should read. (*glares*). I'm going to read Great Expectations.

I usually do. New York is my favourite place in the world and I know it very well. Have you been?

Once. High school music trip (band/choir competition etc.), so I have to go back sometime and see 'the real thing'. It was fun, though I can't say I really experienced the city for what it was. There was too much else going on at the time. Best thing about that trip was seeing RENT with most of the original cast. :-D

Rent with the original cast would have been awesome. Actually, the original Canadian cast was pretty damn impressive.

I've been going to NY fairly regularly since I was 18. The two times my sister has lived in the area (including now) have meant the most frequent visits. I get down about twice a year now. Next time I'm there in summer, I should take the train to North Salem!

It's funny, a lot of my early gay positive experiences were seeing gay-themed plays on Broadway when I was young including Landford Wilson's Fifth of July and Harvey Fierstein in the original run of Torch Song Trilogy (with Estelle Getty, later of Golden Girls fame).

And funnily enough, now I still seem to end up at gay-themed plays down there. I'm going to get to see David Galecki (David from Roseanne) as a hustler in The Little Dog Laughed, which is a comedy about a closeted movie star.

Cool. Well, if there is any one place where there would be lots of gay themed plays and lots of gay in general, it would be NYC.

What kind of book did your BIL write? Is this the rabbi BIL?

I missed the Dickens request. I think Great Expectations is a good choice, although I'm partial to Oliver Twist.

I'm sans enfants that weekend and should have some free time...

As I understand it, he's written a new two-volume siddur for the Conservative movement. I think that's it. I was sort of offered the gig of doing the book design and production but I opted to draw comics and write fanfic instead. He has also written novels and scholarly Jewish books, too.

Well! Maybe we should get together on Saturday. My sister and I are seeing Little Dog Laughed that night but she won't come into the City until after Shabbas.

I'm also waiting to hear from barkis about his schedule.
