Quick follow up to yesterday's telemarketer outrage:

[livejournal.com profile] appelle who is worldly and wise assures me it wasn't a real telemarketer but a scam operation in an office somewhere. The tip-off, other than the behaviour, was the "press 9 to be connected".

In retrospect, I had the distinct impression I was talking to someone in Tony Soprano's office upstairs at the Bada Bing.

For your sake, I hope that pressing 9 didn't cause a charge to be made to your phone account.

haha. Interesting.

That would be possible to scam up, wouldn't it? Or would it?

Could pressing 9 automatically be the same as, say, dialing a 976 number?

Theoretically, I was already connected to them, so it would just be a transfer, not a new call, neh?
