I have finally articulated for myself what bothers me about my relationship with world news. As presented in the media, situations like that in Israel and Lebanon leave me having to choose between the agendas of groups of wealthy, self-interested men on each side.

I rather see most conflicts as a disconnect between these wealthy, self-interested men taken as a group and the masses they control or abandon for their own gain.

Put concretely: I don't want to choose between sides who are dropping bombs; I'd rather side with the bombed.

Thus the news is less than useful for the most part.

Michael, are you a good line editor? Chapter 4 of DOB has been through like three rounds of beta and I can't do it again. She'll make me rewrite it! I can't!! I'LL GO MAD!!!!! I want to go with the version I have now but someone should look at it quickly for any bonehead errors. I really want to post in the next couple of days.

Write me, would you? talktooloose at livejournal dot com

If you can't, that's totally understandable.

I am continually annoyed by variations on the sentence 'Civilians on either side are being bombed'

The cool thing about being a civilian is you're not on a side!
