and... BREATHE!
Jul. 12th, 2006 10:41 pmHoly shit. Our company's website is finally live. The relief is immeasureable. True, it wasn't me alone, but there was definitely something for me to prove as the graphics and technical pointman who had to keep the designers and coders on mission, etc. Very high profile. Very scary.
But it's all good. Wow, what a week leading up to it, though. I was simultaneously giving a constant stream of graphics and navigation feedback to the web designers while simultaneously acting as the person who could explain to nervous higher-ups at our company what the various technical snags were. All this while programming a major web press release that had to be live tonight.
At one point yesterday, I was designing and coding the PR, taking and giving out notes on the site as it approached launch, placating three internals and acting as the conduit between the design company and ISP during several hours when ftp wasn't working in various configurations.
Today, with the site launched, a terrible fatigue washed over me and it was hard to keep on task. The PR had to be launched from home this evening because it was due out at 2am GMT, 10 pm here. At work this afternoon, I carefully uploaded the files with dummy names and emailed myself the serial number for the ftp program I would download.
9:55 came and I went to the computer, only to realize that I had forgotten to send myself the new site's ftp info. I was fucked. Tech support at the ISP said they would only fax ftp info to the primary fax number which, of course, was in the office. The support guy kept saying, "we really should have some kind of secure email, then I could help you." Gee, fucking thanks.
Suddenly I remembered that work email is cached for a week on the server and that my boss had emailed me the ftp info last week. I logged on and found it two messages away from deletion. I launched the PR and sighed big sighs.
It's almost insane to think back on this week which also included drawing to deadline and writing almost to the end of my fic chapter. I think some downtime might be in order tomorrow.
