Tory Shenanigans
Apr. 26th, 2005 10:13 amPolitics is full of fun this morning. The Liberals are trying to broker a deal with NDP to gain enough support to survive as a government if the Conservatives decide to vote against the budget and force a June election.
The NDP are totally rocking Martin's boat (and my world) by saying, 'sure we'll support you if you undo $4 billion in existing and proposed corporate tax cuts.'
The organization of municaplities, representing mayors from the across the country weighed in heavily this morning because they have been working a deal with the feds for years to get better funding for cities including a portion of the gas tax. They do not want to see this budget, where this deal has finally been realized, scuttled. The Cons suddenly claim that they will consider giving the municipalities the same access to the gas tax if elected. One should be highly skeptical of this promise since, at the Conservative policy convention one month ago, they voted in favour of NOT supporting moves to give municipalities a portion of the gas tax.
Don't do this now, Harper. You'll further divide the country and you still won't win Ontario. It should tell you something that the Quebec separtist party, the Bloc Quebecois, wants a new election.
Also, there is no rain in today's forecast but this is clearly bullshit. The air is fairly dripping and the clouds are low enough to bite.
