What's on My Mind Today?
Sep. 14th, 2004 10:23 am1.
America and Russia continue their historic mirroring of mindsets as Putin strips out a level of democracy in order to "protect" his nation from terrorism.
2.
Waiting for the next shoe to drop from my centipede of an editor.
3.
Unfulfilled responsibilities hanging over my head like little mosquitoes, buzzing and stinging.
4.
My mother acting like a lunatic. We are going to her place on Wednesday night for Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year with the immediate family. Fine and dandy. But on Thursday, she is inviting two of my cousins of my generation and their sig. oths. for the second night celebrations. She did the same last year and I didn't attend. I told her weeks ago I could only come one night and that would be Wednesday.
Now she is on a preposterous campaign to get me there. My cousin's gf has moved in with him and they'll likely marry at some point. If I don't come, she says, they'll perceive it as a snub. What?! I barely know these people. We see each other every 18 months. I suspect that my mother has actually set up this annual event in order to make links between me and these cousins for family continuity purposes. I thwarted this UNSPOKEN desire a year ago, and this year she will brook no interference. In other words, she set up a party for me without my consent and it having a shitfit because I'm not coming. She's probably already told the cousins I'll be there. There is no good way out of this.
