I'm obsessed by the worry that I may have sleep apnea. I don't have any real evidence that I do. I don't snore, Snake has not reported me snorting in my sleep (I've asked him). Maybe it's because my big brother just got his CPAP machine and my dad has one. (Not to mention at least two guys on this flist).

As we know, I wake up and worry at 4 in the morning. Today I was worrying at 4 in the morning that the cause of my 4 in the morning waking was sleep apnea. I drifted in and out of sleep until the alarm went off and everytime I woke up, I thought, "Did I wake up because of sleep apnea?!!!"

I think I have apneac episodes (made that word the fuck up!!) if I nap in the afternoon. I do catch myself snorting awake then. But if I'm aware of it in the afternoon, why not at night?

One thing is certain; I do not want to depend on a machine for healthy sleep. I hate artificial interventions like machines and pills. I'd rather do 100 more hours of yoga or whatever than be dependent on a machinepill. This is not necessarily rational; on the other hand, being encumbered with a machine makes travel and casual visiting much more onerous. Also, what will happen when access to electricity is more limited in the future? (UNHEALTHY OBSESSIONS!!)

But the aversion is also learned: my mother should not have been moving around the uneven ground in the cemetery on Sunday without a cane. She's fallen twice in the last two months.

Where was I? Oh yeah... unhealthy obsessions!

But isn't random paranoia more entertaining?

who said you had to stop? "oh they must have done the test wrong..."

My mother's been blaming doctors for her morbid obesity for decades now ... oh those doctors, they never listen to me when I tell them the pills are making me gain weight.

True! But I always feel like a hypochondriac when I go the doctor for anything short of a splintered bone hanging out of my arm.

I'll think about talking to my doctor about it. What if you can't sleep because you're at the sleep clinic?

Here I thought no one else was up late worrying about this...

Sorry to hear about your mom. Is she okay? Did she break anything in her fall? After a certain age, that is a very serious worry.

My mom first did a spectacular fall right out of the tub while showering at a motel, winding up in the middle of the floor. There was no bathmat and the motel reduced their room rate! Bruises but no injuries. Then she fell off a step ladder at home and limped for a month.

Needless to say, I worry about her.

Better bruises then a broken hip! Hopefully, she takes more care in the future and you have less to worry about. *hugs*

"...and you have less to worry about."

Oh dear, you really don't understand how this works.

She'd feel horribly neglected if I stopped worrying about her!

Actually, we were all so impressed by the room discount that we've been encouraging to take dives ever since. Gas station bathroom fall? Free case of Coke! Shoppers Drug Mart fall? Xanax for everyone!

coolio! can I borrow her for a trip to Priape?

One suspects you could get her to fall just by divulging the purpose of the trip.

I dunno... She's frail of body, but tough of spirit!

Hey, I decree that Briseur and Bitterlawngnome must meet next time Briseur is in Toronto!

Hmmm...I guess I don't know how this works. I never, ever worry about my mom and she has never asked me to. I worry about my dad sometimes, but not a great deal as he can take care of himself for the most part. But then again, my dad is just over 50 and my mom will only be 47(?) Oct. 5. Maybe I'll pick up worrying about them more as I (and they) get older...

What i am saying here is that if your mom will feel neglected to not be worried about, worry away! :P

Yeah, that's the difference, hon. I'm almost your mom's age. My parents are both in their 80s.
