Harper already said in his election announcement that tax freedom day would be 11 days sooner in the year. "...so you won't be working for the government anymore; you'll be working for yourself."

What? The Prime Minister is saying that government is the thing that stands between Canadians and happiness? Freedom?

And polls say he's the best leader?!

Aren't right wing politics all about how the government stands in the way of your freedom, and they should be as minimally involved in your life as possible?

Sharkey's right, smaller government is the hallmark of the conservative position. It's a sentiment that goes over with a lot less jaw dropping in the States, where small government has traditionally been held up there with Jesus and Springsteen, but Harper seems to think he's running in the States anyway.

Also, yeah, there are political, fiscal conservatives in Canada. Lots of them.

I mean our history is one long taxrevolt, ultimately.

I know, but it just strikes me as perverse! Theoretically you are Prime Minister because you believe in good governance. Furthermore, for a politician to send the message that government is other than... us, the electorate is bizarro land in the extreme.

Unless of course, he is actually a traitor.
