Getting Catty
Jan. 25th, 2008 01:47 pmLetter of complaint to my vet under the cut.
Dear Dr. K,
As you are probably aware, last Saturday, I made an inquiry about a charge at the clinic dating from last Friday’s appointment. The person from your clinic who phoned me on Monday said she would have you follow up; I’m not sure if that got communicated or not. In any case, I will explain in this letter why I am disappointed with events of last Friday.
Snake brought Claudius in for the second of his three shots last Wednesday (January 16) and made an appointment for me to bring him for the third on Friday. When I arrived, I explained why I was there and was told to wait. We were ushered into the examination room and soon a doctor I had never met entered. When he began to ask questions about the whole history of Claudius’ case, I explained to him that we were only there for the injection and that you were the cat’s vet.
My words seemed to fall on deaf ears as he continued to examine the cat and make suggestions about x-rays and other treatments. I was, frankly, quite distracted by the distress of my cat who was being treated much more roughly than usual and who was, naturally, reacting with even more fear than he does with you.
When the vet tried to get me to book an x-ray for that day, I explained in no uncertain terms that you had already laid out a course of treatment for the cat and that I was not about to randomly switch treatments mid-stream with a vet whom I had never meant to deal with at all.
I paid the bill afterwards, but I should have queried the first item for $28.00. Actually, I thought it said “Rx” and assumed it was the medicine in the injection. Apparently it said “ReX” for “Re-exam”.
I returned the next morning to buy some cat food and attempted to have that charge reversed. The appointment that Snake made, I explained again, was not for an examination, but for the cat’s third prescribed injection. Snake should have been told that you would not be present and, in any case, the other doctor should not have presumed to take over the cat’s treatment. After seeing the lack of empathy he had both for my cat and for me, I must say, I will not visit the clinic when he is the vet on duty.
At this point, I do not seek a refund of the $28.00. I am very grateful for your treatment of Claudius and for the excellent care you and your clinic have taken with my animals for the last ten years. I thought it important, however, to let you know what happened at your clinic and how unhappy I was about it.
Claudius is continuing to eat well a week after the last treatment. My only concern is that his breathing seems somewhat laboured. If that continues, I will bring him in next week on a day when you are working.
Sincerely yours,
