Weird, now I'm happy!

redrunner came over last night and I gave her the present that appelle and I bought her and she was happy, too. I have a very ambivalent relationship with mandatory gift-giving. I tend to give people things whenever the mood strikes me and I see something they'd like. I find I really resent being told "this is the day when you must give something! Anything! because they do it on sitcoms. But when I know soemthing that will make someone happy... mmmmm.

The dog and I walked her home via Christie Pits Park so the dog could run around in the snow. He was so happy that I couldn't resist a second descent into the park on the way home. In the 19th century, Christie Pits was an open-pit mine and now it is a wonderful bowl of a park with steep edges that he likes to barrel down at full speed.

His joy and enthusiasm fills me with contentment and love. Even though he chewed the cord off my good headphones this week.

Significant fact:

The man who invented the silencer also invented the muffler. Am I overwriting if I take the parallel to its logical conclusion? Both quiet the deadly report of an undercontrolled weapon.

Winter is wonderful if you don't own a car. Sure, getting to work was a bit of an adventure, but being in a bus struggling to make it up an icy hill was a struggle I could enjoy without owning. And we all cheered when the bus cleared the difficult intersection. The streetcars made dramatic sparks as their overhead leads fought for contact with iced wires.

Somewhere, people were cursing dead batteries and scraping, scraping the ice from their windows but we were realizing that Christmas lights are best when they refract through shining branches, each a masterful glass sculpture.

I'm finished work for 2004. Coming up are days of cooking, eating, resting, reading, entertaining and watching videos.
