Landed, Stretching and Stretched
Nov. 10th, 2003 11:30 amI'm sorry for the lack of entries. I don't find myself drawn to journalling these past few weeks. I'm sure the bug will return shortly. Also, every time I plan a journal entry, the issues around it seem to multiply like a bacterial colony and I don't like writing myself into tangles.
Interesting things are certainly happening. Most significant is that Tutu is now a landed immigrant in Canada. There is a great sense of relief and purpose associated with this transition. Now, no one's going to throw him out of the country and we realize that we would never want that. Our little family is forging ahead. Now he has to figure out what he's going to do with the rest of his life. His immediate plan is graduate school and a new career but he's only beginning the research now. I think he needs to do anything that will get him more integrated in Canadian culture and let him know that he can succeed here. A part-time job would be good as he won't be able to work much once he starts studying. It will also give some more shape to his life and improve his daily English (which is progressing phenomenally as it is).
One way or another, we will probably ask our tenants to leave sometime in the spring and take over the whole house. The three of us have been living in inadequate space and with inadequate privacy for 20 months now. Tutu should be able to contribute the money we need to compensate for some of the loss of the rental income.
Here's a picture: the three of us take over the house and buy our cardigan welsh corgi puppy in the spring at the same time as I launch my music/comics website. It's a whole new life. And we'll have room for guests again! We let our L/GHEI membership lapse last year because there's no room to put anyone up and I miss being part of that group.
In the meantime, I'm working on the final draft of the passover book. I'm going "LA LA LA LA" about how much work this will actually entail in the next few weeks.
