Don't Piss Me Off!
Sep. 8th, 2003 11:56 amCBC Radio has a long history of brilliant radio sketch groups and they often have a 30 minute spot on Saturday mornings. Past geniuses include The Frantics and Radio Free Vestibule whom
scapegoatee recently quoted.
But the new show, What a Week! is lame, dead in the water and deeply offensive. Among noxious skits this week was one that portrayed Iraqi citizens in a 12-step help group, trying to get over blaming Americans for everything ("The Americans made me burn my toast this morning."). With half a million Iraqi children dead since the gulf war due to "collateral damage" and sanctions, this sketch seems a tad insensitive.
Then they parodied gay marriage with two lisping queer boys rushing to get married. They are in their 30s and celibate and want to marry so they can fuck with a clear conscience. They make a mysterious reference to "having done everything but" and then the justice of the peace asks them how they even know they're gay if they haven't fucked.
