I have never really liked listening to Sinéad O'Connor despite thinking she is kind of kick ass as a person (Compare her anemic soulless rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U with any live Prince version of the song). However, I just stumbled upon Throw Down Your Arms, her 2005 reggae album and while it SHOULD be the most appalling thing one could imagine, it's actually astonishingly good.
She sings with such conviction and musicality that I'm totally a convert. It doesn't hurt that Sly and Robbie's production is just right there. mmm. uh-huh.

*shrugs*
Then again, I am a harpsichordist. Most people don't get what I do, so perhaps I'm too sympathetic.
