Stop me before I flame again!!

arrgggghhhhhhh

Why am I even debating with these people? To EDUCATE!

And one of them is proud gay republican. Gay Republicans? And people make fun of furries?

First of all, re: the Gay Republicans crack, yeah, fiscal conservatives in the United States need to recognize that the Republican party is NOT where they need to be.

That aside, you're not debating with these people, you're trying to make them (or one of them) see something he doesn't want to see; that a natural extension of exploring new gender roles (ie: gay and lesbian couples) is to begin exploring the very foundation of gender itself. Gender can then become just as conceptual as "orientation", as this guy puts it.

But you're not going to convince him of that. You may not even plant the germ.

That's it! I'll plant germs! In his cereal!

I'd be more pissed at the bisexual republican who insists that men are men and women are women and don't pretend any different, if I didn't remember being a bisexual democrat who had the same kneejerk reaction to trans issues about ten years ago. Back when I hadn't met any trans people and I thought I could just render judgments from on high without any, like, experience or thinking about it. ;-)

Instead I'm just pissed that ALL the people who identify as bisexual aren't as hip and thoughtful as I wish they were. Because that person is not a very good commercial for "my" sexual identity AT. ALL.

And ultimately, we're just commercials for something in this world.

I'm actually not proud that I've been all argumentative. I should lead with compassion. But if it were an official debate, I'd win on points.

I would have loved to rip the guy a new one if I thought it would teach him anything. But I have oodles of experience that most people don't learn well that way.

Because there was a lot of entitlement in that whole "I go out to a gay bar, I expect that anyone interacting with me will have a penis, like I want" theme.

Maybe gay bars should have penis boxes at the door like synagogues have kippah boxes.

Gay bars, schmay bars! I'm installing a penis box at my bedroom door. You want in, ladies, put on one of these ;)

So, I'm guessing my entry ticket should look something like this? Or maybe even like this?

Appologies in advance if I offend anyone.

I realize this. It's just a new thing for me to be a good debater. Though it's not necessarily a skill I cherish.

And yes, I LOVE walking in ravines. We'll do it next time you're here.

O that sounds fun; I wonder when I'll next make time for such a trip?

Wow, that's quite a discussion! It seems to me that your logical and sensible posts were sort of lost on those to whom they were directed... It's funny to me that the guy who originally posted this seemed to be asking for support that what he did was the right thing, and even though he did ask for input as to whether it was or not, he just blatantly disagrees with those who tell him he was out of line anyway! Why make the post then, mister??

I began to wonder that myself.

I checked on his profile, he isn't Republican. He's a Nationalist, and apparently likes Hillary Clinton.

But I agree, he's being silly.

Nevermind. On more research, he was trying to be ironic.

I fecking hate people like that.

Irony requires wit. Wit requires action between the ears.

That would be a funny situation. I mean, I may be a bit disappointed that there wasn't any penis on the menu, but depending on how much I'd had to drink, I May Have. At any rate, I'd have a new strange hookup story to add to the pile.

"Sorry sir, no penis on the menu tonight, but we do have some scrumptuous substitutes."

Yeah, if I liked the kitchen, I'd go for the substitute.

Yes, there are some situations where I'd conceivably accept a fish taco if beef sausage were unavailable. :D
From: [identity profile] nyahnyahnyah.livejournal.com
SUBSTITUTES?!?!?!

I love you dearly, but I might have to clock you for that one!

At least they're classified as "scrumptuous." Hmph!

;D

Yeah, republicat is a giant asshole.

Also, I make fun of libertarian furries. I think I could only deal with about 20 minutes of conversation about constructing knots in second life and the flat tax before I'd eat my own hand.

Great, now I've gotten myself involved :P

I'm such a drama queen sometimes! I can't help it! Anyone who is gay and claims that being transgendered is impossible because science hasn't presented the logic to him on a silver platter deserves a swift kick to the shin.

What pisses me off more than anything was the people touting 'science facts' that were very basic and not at all the truth or core of the matter.

I know I'm a minority, being a biologist, but damn... it frustrates me that most people have so little concept of how their own bodies work. And how easy it is for their to be variations on that that are perfectly acceptable and different, but not necessarily 'abnormal'. And that includes parameters that lead to trans-identified people.

Date: 2006-07-27 10:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] talktooloose.livejournal.com
hmm, that's interesting. I was basically arguing that science enters somewhat minimally into it but that's probably going too far.

Are you merely hypothesizing parameters that lead to trans-identification, because I think they'd be as hard to track down as a "gay gene" which I don't believe in. Why don't I believe in it? Because there are too many flavours of queer and it means too many different things to too many people for it to have a single, identifiable etiology.

Cute icon, btw. Like mine?

I'm glad you like it. Yours made me laugh.

I'm not at all saying there *aren't* situations where a biological explanation doesn't exist. Just pointing out the fact that those people supposedly preaching science have NO IDEA what they are talking about.

What people really need to do is just let go and accept. Because really? Who cares what the parts are! Let them live, let it be.

Then again, as a bi male, I guess it makes sense that I wouldn't so much care what the parts are... eh...

*shrugs*

We humans make everything way to complicated.
