I haven't read Holy Fire, but American Gods is very good.

Seconded. Plus, with American Gods, my experience was that although the first 2/3 or so are a bit of a densely-detail-filled slog, it is all worth getting through for the intense conclusion.

Oh, the first two thirds of the book were my favorite! The ending was good, but the detail and imagery throughout the whole book was what kept me fascinated.

Holy Fire is the better book for travelling to Europeish places because it is about Europe and ageing and the future and time and crazy life and Turkey wants to join the EU so.

It's also the better book.

American Gods is a good book, but it'll mainly make you want to go on a road trip around America. Not a good book for travelling in Turkey.

I think that this poll should only be open to people who read BOTH BOOKS. Otherwise the poll is "who read this one book?"

Hey, when do you leave again?

I've not read Holy Fire, but I did read American Gods and enjoyed it. I'm a gaiman fan. (Evidence: I've now read most of what he's written and own a great deal of it....heh.)
