So I freaked myself out with yesterday's post about my father. Good old guilt. Especially after some anonymous troll posted:

"I had a wonderful father and am so thankful for him! Reading your post has made me consider what kind of a parent I've become. I'll ponder and try to correct my errors. Thanks for the heads up."

Clearly this isn't my father, but I was wiggy enough last night to entertain that piece of paranoia. I am very close to disallowing anonymous comments. Because, wtf? How'd you end up reading me anyway and why don't you stand behind your words?

Folks, if you have something to say and no LJ of your own, identify yourself. These are new house etiquette rules. And if that was you yesterday, let me know.

Murky Buckets.

If you're going to make it a rule that people can't post anonymously, why don't you make it an actual rule instead of a suggestion that will soon be buried under other posts (i.e. disable those mofos)?

Because then people without LJs cannot comment at all.

Plus then one can't pretend to be someone else.

Ah! Makes sense. In that case my policy would be that if people comment anonyously and unsigned that you delete them.

Though this doesn't solve the problem of being creeped out by anonymous posts. Can't we make everyone happy at once?

There's a setting for that if you have a paid LJ account.

It would be hard to know where to put this policy. I think the best answer is to write the policy in my user info and then screen anonymous comments (which is an option). Although there would be no way of telling someone why they weren't having their comment published because it wouldn't be there and anonymous commenters don't get e-mail of replies.

As a wise dinosaur asked, "Can't we make everyone happy at once?"

There... there are people without LJs? My god, is there a charity somewhere I can donate to?

Also, I have not yet returned Ronin and it is due Saturday. If you wish to avail yourself of the SHOCKING alternate ending, your days are few and numbered.

They are, in fact, numbered "1," "2" and "3".

albeit an oft neglected one....
just a passer-by, but when you discover the "real" meaning of the back seat driving one please let me know. I have the same dream.
I am either driving from the back seat or the passenger seat. On both accounts, I always over shoot the road or path and crash into something. Dear old dad's decaying brilliance aside, it couldn't be relationship related in my case, as my former love and I's affair ended in a fizzle and not a Ka-BOOM or a lack of any kind of control on either of our parts....
