Fall on Your Knees
Aug. 3rd, 2005 03:25 pmThe vacation (six nights in a canoe-site in Algonquin) was heaven. Of course, we started off very badly with some piss-poor organization up front that left us without a stove for the first night and would have left Snake with no long pants if I hadn't packed two pairs for myself.
We swam twice a day, went on fabulous hikes, saw four moose, one otter, one weasel and countless loons, chickadees and crows. Each day ended with watching the sunset light shift across Canisbay Lake from the rocky landing of our site. The dog was a champion, now able to leap into the canoe with a single bound (pretty cool for a short-legged corgi) and he has become a superb hiker, racing across rough terrain with sure-footed zeal and waiting patiently intersections to see which is the proper route before taking off again.
He even captured a pet toad and carried it gently from the bush in his mouth. It screamed and hissed at him and we had to promise the dog we'd get him a puppy for Christmas and then let the little amphibian go.
As we unpacked the rent-a-car I had the surreal experience of seeing my neighbour's door open and
appelle pop her head out. That's because she,
snowmit and
spizzy have moved in across the road! The good times are about to multiply.
I returned from the bush de-stressed but a horrible sinking depression descended on me yesterday at work and I think I know what it's all about and I will have to start dealing. BUT! There is a cure for depression:
PHYSICAL INJURY!!!
My right knee has been bugging me since last August and it's been clicky and wonky in the last month. Last night, I was on the floor brushing the cat and, as I got up, the knee gave out on me and I swear there was a tearing sound.
At the moment I cannot put any weight on it nor straighten it out. The doctor thinks my cartilege is torn up and he has put me on anti-inflammatory drugs to chill it out in the hopes that I have some kind of normal mobility in a couple of weeks. We await an appointment with an orthopaedic specialist.
appelle! Thanks for your crutches! Did you know I have them? Now you do! Oh, and Anne returned the tin snips.
Did everyone know that
appelle and I are going to quit our jobs and become storm chasers? Be jealous.

omg ow.
Date: 2005-08-04 02:46 pm (UTC)I'll come over and cook for you (and yours) wearing only an apron and some boots, if it helps.
Re: omg ow.
Date: 2005-08-04 02:55 pm (UTC)you should take a taxi :/
Re: omg ow.
Date: 2005-08-04 03:04 pm (UTC)My doctor wasn't so dire. He said as long as the knee doesn't get used, it doesn't matter whether I'm in bed or at work. I'm actually better off here at work where everything is on one level.
Yay mutant healing power. Mmmm to the apron and boots offer.
Re: omg ow.
Date: 2005-08-04 03:46 pm (UTC)but then a rather unfortunate naked-bacon-frying incident taught me a rather harsh lesson, so, heh. apron.
