Such luminaries in photo #1; Wish I'd been there. Thanks for the CD; who's this Tartcheff cat? I dig his music. K & A are playing in Middlebury soon. Have to get a job so I can justify buying tickets.
Going back even as far as K&A's first album, I was surprised to see that Tartcheff has always written their French lyrics. He is, if I remember correctly Georgian by way of Belgium and is now a dairy farmer in Quebec.
We went to Hugh's Room to see them perform two weeks ago. They were wonderful. Hugh's Room is a horrifying and brilliant, at least as a business model. It is the premier folk club in Toronto now and the secret of its success was Hugh's realization that his target audience is rich yuppie former hippies. So you buy your tickets and then sit at stage-side tables eating overpriced nouvelle cuisine and sipping fancy wine while you tap your toes to tales of working-class woes.
Thank god K&A can take the starch out of any place.
