Once More with Feeling
Sep. 22nd, 2003 09:57 amStill sleepy and spaced. I don't remember having had such a hard emotional period for years, never far from the feeling of imminent disaster. I had another bad sleep last night but I woke up and made everyone pancakes and drank a lot of good tea and now I'm at work feeling relatively calm. I'm the only one of three designers in today, but there doesn't seem to be much work and I will try to get as many ideas as possible jotted down about the comic I want to do.
snowmit has promised he'll sit down with me and listen to the ideas, give feedback and throw in his invariably wise two cents. Unfortunately, he is massively busy these days and it's hard to get some of his precious time. I will be forceful and offer food.
I drew until midnight last night and now I have only one ball-breaker of an illustration left plus some small spot illustrations. I keep reminding myself that this is called a first draft and doesn't have to be perfecct. I keep reminding myself that the publisher will pay us US$1000 when we hand it in in 10 days.
Highlights of the weekend include making concord grape jam from the grapes on our patio and a visit from LJ friends. In order to get any grapes at all, we had to battle the raccoons who, this year didn't bother waiting for them to ripen. In the end, we pulled in only about 1.2 kg of usable fruit, which was only about 80% ripe on average. But that turned out to be a blessing as the resulting jam (which we put on the above-mentioned pancakes this morning) was wonderfully tart with a strong concord flavour cutting through. That's one point for house with garden, zero for neo-yuppie townhouse living!
It was
davomatic and his boyfriend's wedding this weekend. I don't know them at all, but
deuterium_d3 and
notahilbilly came up to Toronto for the event and we hung out on Saturday which made me relaxed and happy. Chris, you have my permission to post the pic of us in your journal. At one point, Donny was telling a serious story about his health and life and I found myself grinning. I apologized, saying, "I can't believe I'm sitting in the Saigon Palace on Spadina Ave. with you guys!"
I want to take my LJ tour of the world. Lots of stops in Texas, a couple in NOLA, then there's Manhattan, Ohio, Stockholm and, of course, Paris.
Good week, everyone.
