Unlike poor [livejournal.com profile] rfmcdpei who arrived too late, we did get to see Cyndi Lauper on Saturday. We thought we were so early, we'd get to watch Dragonette's whole set, too. In fact, it took so long to get through security, we only got to see about 20 minutes of that excellent band.

(Canadian political-wonk note: Lead singer Martina Sorbara is long time Liberal MPP Greg Sorabara's daughter). They were abso-fucking-awesome. Check them out. Well written and performed retro-80s dance pop.

The crowd was super pumped to hear Cyndi after that and she was brilliant. Some sniffy-pants faggots left partway through because she was focussing on material from her new EXCELLENT roots blues album. In fact, she didn't sing an older tune until the encores, starting with a beautiful version of "Who Let in the Rain," and then going through "Change of Heart," "Time after Time," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," and finally, of course, "True Colors." She paused before the final line of that tune to lead the crowd in John Lennon's "Power to the People."

The crowd at Queen's Park watching Dragonette (and not being pushed out by riot cops like the week before)

Dragonette rocking out.

Cyndi looking awesome.
