Sorry I've been quiet but getting ready for this trip has been mind-bogglingly difficult. Of course, we're both really OCD about checking and re-checking every possible hotel 20 times in every guidebook and travel forum.

At this point, three days before we fly, we have all our trains booked and we have places to stay everywhere but Amritsar. If we don't nail down a hotel there, we can stay free in a dorm at the Golden Temple, the holiest site of Sikhdom. Frankly, I'm trying to get the air conditioned place across the road from the temple.

We're splurging in a couple of places, including Varanasi. Splurging in India means paying as much as $30 Canadian. I'll post some links to our hotels if I have a minute. HA!

How long will you be there? Maybe 2 rolls of Scott's 1,000 sheet brand. :)

Actually, take half of one and buy as needed there. That's the advice we've been reading about a lot of stuff. Want flip-flops when you're going to be visiting a pool? Buy them in the market the day before. We're taking really minimal clothing and, as necessary, I'll buy a shirt or socks. Everything is dirt cheap.

Also, at the end, if you don't want it, leave the clothing or whatever on a park bench and someone will very happily acquire it.

So, does this mean you've been to India? In one version of our itinerary, we were flying back through Brussells and I imagined meeting you. But in the end, we chose Alitalia through Milan so.... SORRY!

I like the new icons. I've been thinking about doing some scans of Carey's run, but I am currently scanner-impaired. Meh.

Also... didn't mean to shove the beta thing into the fire with all your trip stuff. I really don't care if it's all torn apart and stuff. I'm sure I'll figure out most of what you would have said. Still totally jealous of your excursion. And, me being me, I totally understand the want and need to repeatedly check and ensure the accomodations and arrangements.

Yay for leaving soon! Only $30 Canadian?! Heck, maybe I ought to look into traveling to India some time, that's cheap! Right now I'm thinking my next trip will be to San Fransisco in January (if I get a job between now and then...). But I didn't know India was so cheap...hmmm. :P

Have a wonderful trip. I hope you both come back more relaxed, happy, and ready to face the day to day with smiles on your face. *hugs*

India's insanely cheap. It's just really, really complicated! We're doing it in semi-luxury. You can get hotels in India easily for $10 a night if you don't need air conditioning. A delicious, huge veggie meal will cost a dollar, an overnight sleeper train is like $10.

Flying there is the expensive part. Our tickets are $1300 each.

Ouch on the airfare...but yay on the cheapness of everything else! I hear Thialand and Vietnam are much the same- expensive to fly to, but dirt cheap once you're there. A friend of a friend spent a month in the lap of luxury (so they said) for about $10 American a week in Thailand. Makes me want to get tickets to India and Asia and not come back til my $200 in spending cash is gone. Heh. :P

They are all unforgettable trips which give you a completely different perspective on life. I want to go to Vietnam and Thailand, too!
