I swear to god I wasn't going to write a grumpy post. I judged my energy nicely this morning and rode up the the hill to St. Clair without having to dismount as I did yesterday. It's going to be 32C and stinking, sweaty and smoggy today, but it's still relatively fresh out now and very pretty. I am linking my most recent round of knee troubles to biking which worries and upsets me but I kept an eye on it during the ride and made it here to the office with only mild tenderness. I started composing my cheery post in my head as I entered the building.

Then I found out the elevator is out of order. Having walked up nine flights, my knee is now grumpy and, consequently, so am I. I can project black clouds like an angry little Zeus when I'm unhappy and I'm trying to avoid bringing that down on everybody in the office; but you, you're my friends. So suck it up!

Okay. You want amusing? Here's a piece of Kochalka which pretty much sums me up:

I was defacing the picture of Nancy draped over Ronnie's coffin on the front of the New York Times (adding her missing right arm such that she was scrawling "Just Say 'No'" on the flag) when our temp receptionist asked me if I was old enough to remember Watergate. I informed her that that was Nixon, not Reagan. I said Reagan was guilty of different crimes, like ignoring the first years of AIDS and, along with Margaret Thatcher, helping to mainstream neo-conservatism and legitimizing the indifference to poverty that has helped lead to today's yawning chasm between rich and poor.

She then asked me if I listened to Mojo radio, a GUY'S radio network (sports, tits, stocks, cops). No, I said pretentiously, I never listen to commercial radio. "Oh, it's just they talk about a lot of conspiracy theories like that..."

Fucking save me. Or shoot me. Or drop me down the inoperative elevator shaft.

Now.

Thanks, NR! I always knew you were a kickass activist at heart!
