I'm so angry (as you can probably tell from the subtle title to this entry)!

Snake just had his interview. Reminder of the process so far:

1. He's worked there on and off for ten years and they all know him
2. After the initial culling based on resumes, he had to write three academic papers to get to the next round.
3. Having done that and having been accepted to the next round, he had to prepare a plan for a two-hour lesson and present it at his job interview.

At the interview this morning, he arrived with a package for each of the eight interviewers with details of the lesson plan, materials, rationale and bibliography as requested. These people, half of whom he has known for years, did nothing to put him at ease. They made almost no eye contact during the hour and asked him no personal questions. They cut him off after 15 minutes of his extensive presentation on the lesson plan and handed him a list of ten buzzword-filled pedagogical questions that he was supposed to answer on the spot with no preparation.

When he asked for clarification on an ambiguous question, he got a nervous response that they were also testing intelligence. When he made a more explicit statement of how the question could be read two ways, they got more nervous and admitted that it was ambiguous but could not clarify it.

One member of the panel spent the whole time looking out the window.

At the end, they coldly informed him that there might be one more round of interviews but they're not sure yet.

Holy Mother of Tim Horton! Who do these little pricks think they are? The answer is, they think they are no one and they're so afraid of letting that show that they are burying their heads in their bureaucracy and putting on confident tyrant masks.

I'm leaving work at noon. We're going to go see Matrix Reloaded and I have a present for Snake because he's worked so hard and deserves congratulations whether he's hired or not.

As my Baba used to say, "It's good news if you get it and twice good news if you don't".
