Here's the Next Stupid Thought

Our RRSPs ("registered retirement savings plans" for you foreigners) have earned dick-all in the six or so years we've been contributing. One thought that has crossed our minds is taking out a $100,000 mortgage on our house and using it as a down-payment to buy another in the neighbourhood which could have two apartments in it. 'Cause property, at least, is a good investment.

I have to crunch a shitload of numbers and they better look real sweet at the end...

BECAUSE I FUCKING HATE THIS IDEA!!

Having tenants and another house is like having an IT job where you're always on call for the care and feeding of a tempremental network.

Okay, life, here's the deal: let me quit my day job and make art all the time and I will be a landlord/superintendent, k?

Unfortunately, we wouldn't be making any money to replace my lost salary, just paying two mortgages and taxes.

Uhh, I should never have mentioned it to Snake in the first place.

I briefly flirted with taking IT classes to learn how to hack financial systems and do the "steal one penny from every account and route it to the Caymans" as a financial planning system...but then realized that the problem with that idea is that a) that's way too much work and b) I'd probably have more free time (read: less jail time) if I just stole money the old fashioned way: get a job where your manager has no idea exactly what you do and thus no oversight.

As someone who is planning to start buying RRSPs, I'm interested to hear that yours haven't grown at all in 6 years. What risk level did you choose? (I completely understand if you'd rather not talk about these personal issues.)
