Series Summary: This novel focusses mainly on the paths Iceman and Pyro take on their way to adulthood and how they discover and deal with their love for each other. It is a novel about what Joni Mitchell calls "the dream's malfunction" and how we can learn to make our own dreams when our heroes fail us. Other X characters and OC's play prominent roles and the action begins before X1, continues through the events of X2 and X3 and concludes in the aftermath of that movie.
Chapter Summary: A short chapter about kissing. Three days before school starts, Jean and Scott console themselves, Mike and Jubilee meet again and sparks fly, Bobby and Kitty circle round the issue, Raheem and Andi get heated, a homeless boy works to stay alive.

Thanks for the kind words on structure. Once I knew it was about kissing and about the progress of a single day, it was easy to make it tighter and tighter. I made final, final, final tweaks even as I was finishing up the html (adding John's name in the last line was the last of the last-minute changes).

That last part was made of awesome. Loved how you explored all of the relationships - established and budding - in this. And John, he makes me grin and breaks my heart at the same time. He's such a hard ass on the outside, but inside he's this lonely, sad kid that (I think) really does just want someone to love him. And it's all spiced and flavored with this very real cynical/jaded air.

Ahhh! And! Kitty and Bobby . . . is it over now? I mean, I get the feeling she suspects Bobby may be more same-sex inclined. Though hey, she was good practice. I do like her in this story, don't get me wrong, she's great as is Jubiless, but I just tend to wear Bobby/John goggles.

Anyway, I very much look forward to the next chapter and will be back to fangirl you as soon as I've read it. Any hints on how long it's gonna be before it's up for me to drool on read?

Oh, where do I even start?
Oh, Bobby. He really needs Kitty to teach him a few things. That while kissing technique is nice, it won't be of great help if you can't stay focused on your partner, for starters. Well, I'm sure he'll do better the next time (with someone else...)
And Mike is certainly getting some fireworks. He and Jubilee are the cutest thing ever. Andy is being difficult, though. Gah.
And finally, finally John. It's great to see him again after all this time, although the circumstances are less than thrilling. Glad to see he is still alive and kicking.

LOL. Yeah, I think I'll have to write a note explaining the fireworks line at the top of next chapter because I have some non-fandom friends reading this and it's going to go right over their heads. Ditto for people who only know the movies because we never actually see Jubes' powers except a small crackle in a deleted X2 scene.

Oh, John. He breaks my heart, too. He reminds me of my nephew (who's now all grown up). When he was six, he insisted on doing a scary ride at a park and made me not even wait with him in line. He was scared, proud and determined and I just wanted to hug him to me. But I had to let him take his risks. That's how John feels to me.

Kitty and Bobby... ahhh, is it over? Well, it's a step, as you say. They will meet someone in Chapter 10 (no, not John) who will complicate their relationship considerably.

I won't promise a completion date for 10. I am trying not to exceed a month between chapters. I am finally ready to start writing. It's a complicated chapter with tons of characters. And HOT SEX!!

Andi is an idealist. She is one of those people who you think is all nice but... "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." She cares a lot about the kids in the group and she is being prevented from helping. I don't really blame her for her reaction. We're all a bit vulnerable after we've been well fucked!

Don't worry... John is never forgotten.

Hmmm, yeah the gay sex is going to unfold as it must (and very soon... like Chapter 10). But this isn't one of those fics where two butch heroes suddenly and for no good reason jump each others' bones. Not that those are bad fics, it's just not what I'm writing. I care about my other characters and their sex lives are part of the story. The fact that gay sex gets to the table later is a function of Bobby's coming out process.

This is a beautiful chapter.

First off, Thank you so much for giving me back my buddy johnny. I have missed him so much. Circumstances haven't gotten any better for him, but that's why I love him. He's a survivor. Plus, knowing that ultimately, he and bobby get together makes this all ok.

Waayyy to much heterosexual lovin going on. It made me sick.... hahahaha, not really. As much as I love scott and jean, never again. I am glad that Mike is having things goin his way. I couldn't stop laughing at the fireworks comment. That's classic. I am curious as to how many people understand it though.

I felt for Andi, and I am anxious to see where that goes. Poor Kitty. I am wondering if she is catching on to his attraction to guys. But either way, things look bad for them.

The biggest problem I have writing this fic is that I care about all the characters too much. I should just focus on Bobby/John, Bobby/John, but once I've written someone, I feel responsible for them.

I don't foresee much more Scott/Jean (especially at that intimate level). But I wanted to set up Scott's expectations of Bobby as a woman's man. Also, I can't resist writing scenes that let me explore my take on different powers, in this case the way Jean and Scott's bond allowed him to see special colours during sex. I love writing powers. I get to do a lot of it in Chapter 10 which begins on the first day of the new semester at Xavier's.

Thank you. The first half of the book has focussed more on Bobby's journey. The second half will be more evenly split between them, I think. They both have a lot to learn and I love them both!

How great was the kissing scene you wrote between Mike and Jubilee...I can't believe that you ended it with him seeing fireworks; proverbial and probably real. That was great.
I hated that St. John had to hustle to make his way on the streets. Hated Hated Hated it. The only saving grace of that was that he said he doesn't kiss. I hope his first kiss is with Bobby (well, his next first kiss; he's already been with others...but you know what i mean). And I loved Bobby being protective of the poem St. John gave him.
