Scant Progress...
Apr. 1st, 2003 03:51 pm...but progress nonetheless.
I've been hacking away at making piano scores of songs all day in preparation for communicating better with piano players. I will continue tomorrow. By next week, I will -- WILL -- have four lead sheets ready and I will -- WILL -- call the three piano players I've been nervous about phoning and ask to get together with them to try out the songs and discuss a potential partnership.
This morning, I spoke to my friend in Chicago who is launching her career as a theatre costume goddess. We have similar neuroses and bouts of doubt (hmm, tasty). In being supportive of her, I was also deliberately talking to myself. No one can make your dreams come true but you!

Date: 2003-04-01 03:47 pm (UTC)But I am totally planning to record You Oughta Know with a single lyric change (other than the detective change I wrote about in my journal a few weeks ago). Instead of "An older version of me," I will sing, "A female version of me".
And suddenly, it's a song about a guy being left by his boyfriend for a woman.
Actually, I have one more lyric change. Instead of: "Does she speak eloquently and would she have your baby?" I make it: "But she speaks eloquently and she can have your baby." She can give him the one thing I can't, in other words.
'Cause I'm pretty eloquent.
