Announcer: And now another exciting page in the annals of Canada's number one sleuth into the real words hiding just beneath the placid silver surface of your CDs!

(fade theme)

I've been singing "You Oughta Know" for the last couple of days, and I figured that the infamous "Are you thinking of me when you fuck her" wasn't the original lyric.

Did you forget about me,
Mister duplicity?
I hate to bug you in the middle of DINNER

It was a slap in the face
How quickly I was erased
Are you thinking of me when you're IN 'ER (in her)

To me it's clear that this was the lyric as written and I think it's better. "Fuck her" is loud and angry and was, perhaps, the best choice for Alanis' performance, but "in her" is more visceral, vivid and uncompromising. And the rhyme makes a mockery of the placid, domestic dinner that is being interrupted.

Announcer: This has been another exciting edition of Talk Too Loose, Lyric Detective. Join him next week when he reveals the secret missing word in Somewhere Over the Rainbow!

Yay! I'm going home. I'm so tired. I just want to flake and watch Survivor: The Amazon and read my new X-Statix tpb. What an intellectual!

In case anyone's wondering what progress I'm making on matters musical, I am learning the scoring features of my music software (eMagic's Logic Platinum) with the goal of preparing lead sheets for 5 songs so I can start trying out piano players. I have three players lined up to try at the moment and two more to beg.

Good night, good night.
