The "It Gets Better" That Dare Not Speak Its Name

I've watched pretty much all of the videos on the itgetsbetterproject channel. I'm getting kind of pissed off at the celebrity ones that don't use any of the words, LGBT, gay, lesbian, bi, transgendered, queer, etc.

Mary McDonnell (who is by default awesome) says some stirring things about bullying in general, and assures the bullied that "it gets better." But she never mentions queers. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick do a 13 second (literally) video that basically comes across as "we're parents of teens and we think you should get over yourselves and chill, dudes." They never mention LGBT people at all.

I commented on their video that they are contributing to exactly the kind of invisibility that makes queer people feel they have no place at the table, and that make LGBT youth feel isolated and hopeless.

Fuck you, seriously.
