If I try to reduce anxiety by attempting to control things beyond my control, not only do I add to my anxiety, but I use up energy that might be spent on strategies that might actually be helpful.

I have feared that beginning therapy might actually uncork some bottle of madness that, while contained, allows me to live as a functional being, but if allowed to pour forth might render me a permanently lost soul. It was pointed out that looking at something more clearly and mapping its dimensions cannot make it more destructive than it already is.
